The Périgord Vert offers a unique wealth of places and activities to discover. Prehistory, ever-present in the region, has left behind numerous archaeological sites, caves, and decorated shelters, as well as cluzeaux (ancient rock shelters). History, on the other hand, has gifted the area with an endless variety of bastides and villages, some of which are ranked among the most beautiful in France—such as Saint-Jean-de-Côle, located just 5 km away.
There are many museums to explore, such as the Sorges Truffle Ecomuseum, as well as countless castles scattered throughout the region, including Château de Puyghilem, where the movie Le Pacte des Loups was filmed. Other must-see sites include Boschaud Abbey and the Villars Caves, renowned for their prehistoric cave paintings, just 7 km away
The site of Brantôme, known as the ‘Venice of Périgord,’ has been inhabited since at least the Neolithic period, as evidenced by the presence of the Pierre Levée dolmen.
The abbey was probably founded under Pepin the Short in 769, although this foundation is often attributed to Charlemagne, who deposited relics of Saint Sicaire there. The church was consecrated by Pope Leo III in 804
This place is absolutely beautiful and incredibly peaceful. Perfect for unwinding! The welcome here is also exceptionally warm. I will definitely come back!
